England Squad - Euro 2024

I think Mainoo is a cert - based on a lack of depth and how well he's shown up in a poor side. Palmer too, surely?

 

I am late to this thread. Love this tournament. When is the squad announced?

After watching him in the CL against Athletico and last night against PSG, and a little bit of Bundesliga highlights, I'm not ruling out Sancho for a call up. He looked unplayable at times last night. Might be something in players used to playing in Germany too? I think Dier is going to get a call up too, if the squad gets enlarged to 26.

Playing in Germany is a small factor, but the lad is probably playing the best he ever has since going out there. He is outperforming De Ligt, Umpamecano and Min-Jae in every measurable metric this season and has amazingly in a few months become Bayerns main centre back, after being about 10th choice at Spurs.

 

Confirmed tonight, 26 man squads for the Euros. Jordan Henderson is somewhere, frantically trying to extend his passport.

Assuming there's not much in it, but Palaces Adam Wharton was 66/1 last week for a world cup spot, he's now 6/1. Tyriek Mitchell and Eze have also had their odds slashed.

Sancho and Dier have also had shorter odds since the squad cap grew to 26.

Diers odds dropped even more, reckon he'll get in now after his Bayern form.

 

To be fair, there's only really Dier, Stones and Branthwaite who are on form at the minute. Looks like Tomori has had a mixed response comeback after his few months out injured but Southgate seems to forget that Serie A exists anyway. Guehi has only just come back after 3 month out, Konsa and Villas defence in general has looked a little ropey since Martinez's injury. Dunk is just always Dunk, Maguire is injured again. Joe Gomez has only played CB once this season.

As much as I've seen enough of Dier in an England shirt to last a lifetime, he is keeping out 2 world class defenders at the minute at Bayern and the other options are just as uninspiring. God, listing them all out, our central defenders are so mid-tier it's unreal.

I think Brainthwaite is in the pre-lim squad and probably in the 26 too, with 5 CBs in Stones, Maguire & Dier then two of Branthwaite, Konsa or Guehi.

 

And our best CB is playing in midfield

 

Probably wouldn't play Foden at centre half m9.

 

As I said earlier @Sergio Pinto III .... Villa at the back look ropey as f**k! Hopefully their recent iffy run at the back doesn't harm Konsa as he'd be in my team over Dier, Dunk, Colwill and Guehi.
